Food related diseases? (Part 1)

Food is suppose to be useful to our body, we take it for sustenance, but if taken when it is contaminated or bad could be very dangerous for our health and could result in food borne diseases.
Food-borne diseases are those that are acquired by ingesting food and/or drink. Most occur due to wrong cleaning, cooking and food storage techniques, and can be prevented. Not all of these diseases present early. When the disease-causing agent (microbe) is swallowed, there is a delay, called the incubation period, before the symptoms of the illness begin. This delay may range from hours to days, depending on the agent, and on how many of them were swallowed. Sometimes, even when the disease-causing agent is dead, its products, left in the food/ drink could be harmful to the body. During the incubation period, the microbes pass through the stomach into the intestine, attach to the cells lining the intestinal walls, and begin to multiply there. Some types of microbes stay in the intestine, some produce a toxin that is absorbed into the bloodstream, and some can directly invade the deeper body tissues. The severity of symptoms produced depends greatly on the type of microbe and quantity ingested.
Which bring us to Gastroenteritis - an inflammation of the stomach and intestines. It may be caused by viruses, bacteria (and their toxins), and parasites (collectively called microbes). The symptoms are very similar, making it difficult to say which agent is likely to be causing a given illness unless laboratory tests are done, or the illness is part of a recognized outbreak. Similar symptoms may be side effects of medications, or a reaction to foods.
Symptoms are:

  • Watery bowel motions
  • Abdominal cramps and pain.
  • Nausea, vomiting or both
  • Occasional muscle aches or headache
  • Low-grade fever

If you then notice any of the following in addition to the above,Please consult your doctor immediately.

  1. You are not able to keep liquids down for 12 hours
  2. You vomit for more than two days
  3. You vomit blood or become dehydrated. [Signs of dehydration include excessive thirst, dry mouth, deep yellow urine or little or no urine, and severe weakness, dizziness].
  4. You notice blood in your bowel movements
  5. You have fever above 380C (100 F)

Diarrhoea is one of the most common and fastest killers in children. Please Do not wait until it is too late.

I think I have heard someone somewhere say that opportunity comes but once. Even though I believe that there are lots of opportunities for everyone to make it, but there are still some that once missed, it can never be regained. Such was the story of two people I watched Last night on Oprah’s show, the discussion was centred on making good use of money, the first is a woman who played and won a 15million dollar lottery, payable over a period of twenty years with a yearly pay of four hundred and something thousand dollars after tax. The other is a homeless can collector who hit jackpot during his scavenging act through the magnanimity of a Hollywood producer. Both were asked how they spend the money and if there is any of it stashed away and you could imagine my surprise when the woman said they bought lots of things they’ve been lacking for a long time (beach house, apartments, boats, luxury cars etc), and gave some of it away to friends and relative. The homeless guy also gave all his money out as cash and gifts for friends and family. In a nutshell none of the two actually thought of making a better use of the money or part of it, like investing in a business that could yield some profits and generate a stable income afterwards.
Here is a story of someone who did it differently. This guy was poorer than a church rat, he was ever alert to the drumbeats of parties anywhere so that he could attend/gatecrashed and gets some left over food. But luck smiled on him one day when he was invited to work somewhere as a labourer to dig the ground. As he was digging, he heard a strange sound and out of curiosity he dug a little further and struck a pot of gold that must have been buried and forgotten years back. He quickly got a sack and loaded the gold coins into it and returned home. He sold the gold coins, each was highly priced and set up a business with the proceeds and that was how poverty vanished from his life.
Would you have also done things differently?
What would you do if you were in their shoes?
Some stand in front of the door of riches, breakthrough and prosperity but still remain poor for want of a key with which to open the door.
Are you one of such people?
Some were unemployed for years and when given an opportunity to work they are not serious with the job.
Please when given an opportunity, don’t misuse or abuse it, remember some only comes once in a lifetime.

Is AID truly real?

Many will wonder at my question, I asked because some or should I say a lot of people still don’t believe that aid is alive and kicking. I was listening to a radio programme on a trip I made last week, a lady aged 23years was being interviewed about her HIV status and she openly confessed to being positive and ready to declare it anywhere simply because she did not want other youngsters to make the mistake she made. She went on to lament the difficulties she had encountered since declaring her HIV status, friends abandoned her, and her parents/family members forbade her to go on air to publicly discuss it, telling her she had brought enough disgrace on the family.
This opened up discussion in the bus where some group said she was paid to do it like you pay people to advertise some drugs while others just asked if it’s really true that AIDS IS REAL? For others like this group of people out there, I think I have this to say to you;

  • Don’t let it happen to you before you become a believer; a lot of people that has AIDS were just like you, who never believe until it happened to them.
  • Take all the necessary precautions, because if you don’t, you may live to regret it.

It is also important to know that equipping ourselves with knowledge creates awareness, but being aware is not also enough. For it to be effective and have a positive influence on lives it must be converted to responsible practices…we must be accountable for the choices we make and whilst we make these choices, we must remember that someone who looks up to us is watching. What we do affects many more than just ourselves.
Someone once said and I quote "a
ll it takes for evil to thrive is for good to remain silent".
In like manner, all it takes for HIV to thrive is for you and I to remain passive. Please know this gospel, preach it and help others to believe it.

Until next time.

I think this is Advanced Fee Fraud aka 419.

Dearest In The Lord,

Greeting in the name of our lord Jesus Christ, i am Mrs. Mabel David from Kuwait. I am married to Mr. Jacob David who worked with Kuwait embassy in Ivory Coast for nine years before he died in the year 2004.We were married for eleven years without a child.
He died after a brief illness that lasted for only four days. Before his death we were both born again Christian.
Since his death I decided not to remarry or get a child outside my matrimonial home, which the Bible is against. When my late husband was alive he deposited the sum of US$2.5 million dollars in a bank here in Abidjan Cote d'Ivoire. Presently, this money is still in bank.
Recently, my Doctor told me that I would not last for the period of nine months due to cancer problem. The one that disturbs me most is my stroke sickness. Having known my condition I decided to donate this fund to a charity organization that will utilize this money the way I am going to instruct herein.

I want an organization that will use this fund for orphanages, school and church, widows, propagating the word of God and to endeavor that the house of God is maintained.
The Bible made us to understand that "Blessed is the hand that giveth".I took this decision because I don't have any child that will inherit this money and my husband relatives are not Christians and I don't want my husband's efforts to be used by unbelievers.

I don't want a situation where this money will be used in an ungodly way. This is why I am taking this decision. I am not afraid of death hence I know where I am going. I know that I am going to be in the bosom of the Lord. Exodus 14 VS 14 says that "the lord will fight my case and I shall hold my peace".

I don't need any telephone communication in this regard because of my health hence the presence of my husband's relatives around me always. I don't want them to know about this development. With God all things are possible.

As soon as I receive your reply I shall give you the contact of the bank in Abidjan Cote d'Ivoire. I will also issue you an authority letter that will prove you the present beneficiary of this fund. I want you and the church to always pray for me because the lord is my shepherd.

My happiness is that I lived a life of a worthy Christian. Whoever that wants to serve the Lord must serve him in spirit and Truth. Please always be prayerful all through your life.Contact me on this e-mail

Any delay in your reply will give me room in sourcing another church for this same purpose. Please assure me that you will act accordingly as I Stated herein.

Hoping to receive your reply.

Remain blessed in the Lord.
Yours in Christ Sis.Mabel David.

Friends, if you received this kind of message, please don't believe it just delete from your mail. Such message is from the advanced fee fraud aka 419, who want to dispossessed you of your hard earn money.
Let me correct something she recorded against the bible (highlighted above), it is not against the bible to re-marry when your spouse died 1 Cor. 7:39-40-The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord. But she is happier if she so abides, after my judgment: and I think also that I have the Spirit of God.

Whether you re-marry or abide is your own decision if the partner dies.

Lets watchout,

They are everywhere this days.

Dealing with problems.

A hiker went walking through the forest one bright sunny day, sighted a drowning man floundering in the river. He was momentarily stunned and was at first undecided what to do. He later jumped in the river when he saw the man disappearing below the waters. He threw off all his heavy clothing and dove into the river, swimming like a madman toward the spot where he last saw the man. Reaching the spot, he plunged below the surface and frantically hauled up the helpless man. He then towed him to the shore. Heaving the lifeless body up on the bank, the hiker attempted to revive the man, who eventually spit up water and began to breathe. Relieved, the hiker paused to catch his breath. But no sooner had he done so than he heard another voice out on the water.
Another drowning person! And another and another ……………. until finally exhausted and about ready to collapse, he saw another man walking briskly towards the upper part of the river, he could not help calling out to the man for assistance. But all his effort yielded no results as the man continued walking as if he had not heard him. Surprised, the hiker ran up to him blocked his part and the following conversation ensued;

Hiker: "Hey! How can you possibly walk past all these drowning people?
Have you no conscience? Must I force you to help me save these people?"

Stranger: “Please get out of my way because I am headed upstream to stop the man who is pushing all these people in."

Learning point: It is better to address problems at source rather than allow it degenerate into something that may be difficult to resolve. We need to learn to deal with problems at source. Some if not all of us allow our problems to swamped us,we need to weigh the problems, look at how best to approach it,and apply creative thinking to solve it.It is not all problems that require money to solve, simple solutions at our fingertips could go a long way in making life better.

Remember,apply creative thinking.

Difficult to believe.

It is sometimes difficult to understand what motivate people to do dastardly acts. I was reading the account of a man who allegedly killed his lover over a certain some of money early this year. The man was said to have lent the money to his lover, who later went back to demand for another sum with a pledge that she will make love with the suspect. When she failed to keep her promise, the suspect lured her to a deserted farmland, butchered her to death and hurriedly wrapped the body with her clothes and buried her remains in a shallow grave few metres from the scene of the crime. Unknown to him, a farmer in the adjoining farmland witnessed the whole show; he raised alarm and the villagers gathered round the man to prevent him from escape and later called in the police. Upon questioning, he claimed that he had spent so much money on the victim during their courtship, alleging that she had always denied him sex. He alleged that the victim borrowed from him and always refused to pay back only to request for more money but still refusing to have sex with him as agreed. He alleged that the victim was always coming to him with one lie or another, with a view to extorting money from him and that was just the only reason he decided to hack her to death.

What a story! What a man!

But is this right? How much money could have been involved?

Ladies, lets watch out, no amount of money is what the loss of a human life.
